Herb Aulehla's world is the world of the visible. "The more you look, the more you see". He experiences the beauty of the creation thus perceived as sensual, a source of energy, showing painted works of art in endless variety. It is his aim to position them as a contrast in their environment. Art may tell something but it doesn't have to! It's the same with his pictures: Their colours may be spectacular, but they don't have to. They may be harmonious, but they don't have to. He paints his pictures and takes them apart again. Only to re-assemble them into something new. Thus, he turns common ways of seeing, which may lead us into a sloppines of the visual, into something relative and gently forces us to look at the beauties of colour discovered by him, having been rid of the usual. On his way as an artist, Aulehla has walked down the same path: A job at the University of Vienna - and artistic processing of the things first seen, and eventually painted. Dive into colour - and find yourself in the countless variations of the possible! The Labellas: Hitting the target After "Dein ist mein ganzer Schmerz" ("My pain belongs to you") (1995) and "Weinen vor Glück" ("Crying with Joy") (1999) the Labellas prove themselves to be hitting their target in 2001. The gem of the Viennese lesbian scene shines with its new show. The women music cabaret company presents hits, torch songs and revue laced with political irony and amourous ties. Witty and fun, "Hitting the Target" activates endorphine emission. Lightfooted and unplugged, the Labellas have a near miss with kitsch and turn into the boulevard of amusement. Who would have thought that Vienna could be a site of lesbian camp!
